Who we are
This website is operated by Yogakulam Academy (“we”, “us”, “our”), a yoga school based at Bengaluru, Karnataka. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and the choices you have under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Because we welcome students from Europe and the UK, it also reflects the EU/UK GDPR for those users.
What we collect and why
- Enquiry, Lead Forms & Brochure Downloads: We collect your name, phone number and email address to respond to your enquiry and provide the course information you requested. This is processed based on your consent or our legitimate interest in responding to your enquiry.
- Booking, Course & Contact Forms: We collect your name, email address, phone number, country, gender, yoga experience, selected course and any additional message to process your enquiry or booking and organize your course. Gender information is used solely for appropriate room allocation. This is processed as part of fulfilling your booking or contract with us.
- Live Chat: Any information you share through live chat is sent to our team via email and our Zoho chat platform to assist with your enquiry and booking. This is processed based on your consent or our legitimate interest in providing support.
- Marketing Communications: If you choose to subscribe, we may send you course updates, offers and promotional emails. You can withdraw your consent and unsubscribe at any time.
- Website Usage Data: We collect website usage information through cookies and similar technologies only with your consent, as described in our Cookie Policy.
We ask only for what we need, and optional fields (like your message) are your choice. “Basis” above is the legal ground we rely on for EU/UK users under GDPR.
Health information
If you share health details for yoga therapy or safe practice (such as injuries, conditions or pregnancy), we treat this as sensitive. We collect only what we need, store it securely and separately, share it only with the teacher or therapist involved in your care, never use it for marketing, and delete it when it is no longer needed. We ask for your explicit consent before collecting it.
Cookies and tracking
With your consent, we use analytics and marketing tools that may set cookies and share some data with providers such as Google and Meta. Strictly necessary cookies that keep the site working run without consent. You can accept, reject or change your choices anytime via “Cookie settings” in the footer. How we obtain consent
We collect your personal data only after you give clear consent — by ticking the consent box on a form, or by accepting a cookie category — unless we’re relying on another lawful basis such as fulfilling your booking. We keep a record of the consent you gave, and you can withdraw it at any time; withdrawing is as easy as giving it, and won’t affect anything we did before you withdrew.
Who we share data with
We share your data only with service providers that help us run the school, and only as needed:
- Hostinger – Website Hosting and Email Services
- Zoho – Live Chat and Customer Support Services
- Google & Meta – Analytics and Advertising Measurement (Only with Your Consent)
- Our Sales & Admissions Team – To Process and Follow Up on Your Enquiry or Booking
We do not sell your data.
International data transfers
We are based in India, so if you are in Europe or the UK your personal data is transferred to and stored in India, and some providers (such as Google and Meta) may process it in other countries too. India does not currently have an EU “adequacy” decision, so for these transfers we rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK equivalent) together with the providers’ own data-processing terms. How long we keep it
We keep enquiry and lead data for 18–24 months, and student/booking data for the duration of your course plus 36 months, unless the law requires us to keep it longer or you ask us to delete it earlier. After that we delete or anonymise it, including copies held by our team.
How we protect your data
We use HTTPS across the site, restrict who can access your data, use strong passwords and multi-factor authentication on our accounts, and keep our systems updated. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information. If a significant breach occurs we will notify affected people and the Data Protection Board of India, and — for EU/UK users — the relevant supervisory authority within 72 hours where required.
Your rights
Under the DPDP Act (and the GDPR if you are in the EU/UK) you can ask us to:
- Request Access to a Summary of the Personal Data We Hold About You and How It Is Used
- Request Correction or Update of Your Personal Information
- Request Deletion of Your Personal Data When It Is No Longer Required (Right to Erasure)
- Withdraw Your Consent or Object to Certain Types of Data Processing
- Receive a Copy of Your Personal Data in a Portable Format (For Eligible EU/UK Users)
- Nominate an Authorized Person to Exercise These Rights on Your Behalf if You Are Unable to Do So (As Applicable Under the DPDP Act)
- Submit a Grievance or Complaint Regarding the Handling of Your Personal Data
To make any request, email contact@yogakulam.com. We may verify your identity first. We respond within a reasonable time — and within one month for EU/UK requests. If you’re not satisfied, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India, or to your local EU/UK data protection authority.
Withdrawing consent and unsubscribing
Change cookie choices anytime via “Cookie settings” in the footer. To stop marketing emails, use the unsubscribe link in any email or write to contact@yogakulam.com. To withdraw consent for us to hold your data, email the same address and we’ll act on it.
Children
Our courses and this website are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from minors (under 18 in India; the age of digital consent varies between 13 and 16 across EU countries) without verifiable parental or guardian consent. If you believe a child’s data has been shared with us, contact contact@yogakulam.com and we’ll remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We’ll post the new version here with an updated date, and keep prior versions on record.

Data leaving India
Some of these providers (such as Google and Meta) may process cookie data outside India. Where this involves EU/UK users, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses as explained in our Privacy Policy under “International data transfers.”
Managing cookies in your browser
Besides our “Cookie settings” control, you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking all cookies may stop parts of the site from working properly. Each browser’s help pages explain how to do this.
